…..as Obaseki sets to deploy army, police, civil defense, thugs
Reeling from his complete loss of grip on the structure of the APC in Edo State and the refusal of the leaders of the party to back his sinking second-term ambition, Governor Godwin Obaseki has turned to force and illegality again with fresh plans to seal the new secretariat of the party located on No. 18 Ighiwiyisi Street, off Airport Road, Benin City.
A change in the party’s secretariat following the sack of Anselm Ojezua was earlier announced and recently affirmed publicly by the national leadership of the APC after a letter by the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, notifying INEC of the change in address and indicating its previous correspondence to the Edo State’s Commissioner of Police, the DSS, and Nigeria Security, and Civil Defence Corps was published.
According to Government House sources who pled anonymity, Governor Godwin Obaseki is now planning to seal off the building with a retinue of thugs, and members of the Nigerian Army, Police, and Civil defense as he scampers to regain control and save the sinking ship of his second-term bid.
Anselm Ojezua, who now operates as the leader of the Governor’s OSM support group, has been reduced to running personal errands for the governor since his sack by the party and the old secretariat which he previously bragged to maintain has been deserted by members of the party and other relevant stakeholders.
The governor’s frustration grew worse when the Federal High Court in Benin City on Monday refused to grant an interim injunction filed by his allies to restrain the APC from conducting its June 22 primary which he is widely predicted to lose.
Instead, the court set a hearing for Thursday and given the lack of basis of the claims of the governor and his political allies, as well as clear legal precedents on non-intervention of courts in internal party affairs, they are expected to lose and confront party members whom the governor has long disparaged and denigrated as thieves and leeches.
